I had my first shift volunteering at The Hepworth this week, and I really loved it!
It was for Sensory stories, aimed at 5-8 year olds, where an artist created a tactile, playful story telling experience, before we headed upstairs to draw in the gallery.
It was a really bizarre experience as I really loved working with the children and exploring their creativity, but it was also full of safety aspects regarding working alongside the parents to ensure no one gets injured or nothing in the gallery gets damaged. This was different to when I have previously worked with children, as their parents normally aren't around as much, it was an interesting lesson in responsibility and appropriateness.
The next sessions I will be helping out at are a printmaking workshop at the end of may, which I'm really excited about, as I feel like this is another opportunity for me to 'get my foot in the door' and potentially progress into a job after graduation.
