Study Task 3- Product

One of my passions within design is packaging, so when looking at product I enjoyed exploring the different ways pattern and image can be applied to different packaging.

I chose these design because I felt they were dynamic and and well thought out, with the resultant products being very appealing due to their clever form and use of imagery. I also really like the reserved use of colour on them, as I feel the cool cohesive colour palettes mean that the products are approachable yet still grab the audience's attention.
Sophie Pépin
This design my Pépin works well to combine shape and pattern in a cohesive and smooth way which ensures that the pun of the name 'teapee' isn't missed, whilst creating a novelty packaging which still retains the luxury quality which is desired when thinking of the higher end of teas. I also find her use of simple pattern and colours is a nice nod to Native Americans whilst still having a very contemporary and dynamic feel, which would help to draw in a higher number of buyers.
Kajsa Klaesén
These book cover designs by Klaesén again show just how effective simple shapes and colours can be, and I think the way the negative space and strong colours are balanced not only throughout the design but also through the set make them work as a cohesive collection, which only add to the value of the covers, as the way they fit together so well highlights the importance of consideration within design, and how balance within pattern creates such a strong composition.

Simon Laliberté
These comical packaging designs by Laliberté show just how much packaging can be manipulated to fit the needs of the product, and how its primary function is to showcase the product it is trying to sell. What I particularly like in this work is how Laliberté boldly uses only black and white in this design, and lets the colour come solely from the brushes within the packaging, which is a subconscious message to the audience that these are the main part of the piece, and that without the brushes, the packaging is useless, which juxtaposes with the multi functions of the brush.
