Study Task 3- Process

The first thing the audience notice about a piece of work is normally the process by which it was created, as it is definitely the most easily identifiable aspect of the work.

The reason I chose this set of images was because I thought the media and techniques used to create them were the most diverse and made the biggest impact visually. In addition I really loved the colour scheme in most of them as they are very simple yet contrast strongly enough to really emphasise the shapes within the image.
Eiko Ojala
This work by Ojala shows a great deal of crafting and design, as this laser cut illustration relies upon the relationship between strong paper shapes, and how they can work together in very simple ways to show a strong story. I also found the interesting consideration of layers and levels is a very strong component of this composition, as Ojala has not stuck to the conventional depth system, but has used the shadows to seemingly add tone to different parts and make it feel more 3D and present.
Mairi Timoney
Timoney uses collages of photographs and textures to create these sparse and quite modern pieces. What I like the most about her work is the carefully considered colour palette, as through using simple colour additions, she highlights the colours already present in the photographs, and brings out the natural tones. I also love how precise she is with her crafting, as it makes the whole piece feel more resolved, as it is difficult to imagine the photographed elements in a different environment.
Mira Alibeck
These fragile balloon casts by Alibeck use the process of construction to highlight the meaning and depth of the message, as the gentle, weightless nature of these sculptures are balanced incredibly well with the perfect form, disrupted only by the strong bursts of colour which add a certain weight and personality to the items, and prevents them from floating away. This all works together to create a strong emotional response to them, which explores their journey and what they represent for the individual.
