OUIL402 Introduction: Why did you choose this programme?

- Strong links to industry

Out of all the courses I considered, this course was most definitely the one which had the most links to industry in areas in which I am interested in working in, as I found the strong industrial ties Leeds College of Art had were incredibly impressive, as there seemed to be a genuinely healthy relationship between professionals in Leeds and the students of LCA.

- Many academic elements

Again, I felt that this course contained the best balance between academic and practical work, as I believe that, although art courses are generally more practical, a strong emphasis on academic work is extremely important, as the two go hand in hand. Furthermore, I feel that in order to grow my work as a professional I need to learn the intrinsic working of the industry I'm about to enter.

- Engaging and inspirational staff

What also struck me during the open days and interviews was the fantastic relationship between students and tutors, as I felt it was less teacher-pupil and more of a professional working relationship, which I feel will be extremely beneficial to me in order to get used to that sort of relationship before I start in the industry with other professionals. in addition, I felt that all the talks and information was very captivating, which is always a good sign when the next three years of my life will be spent in similar environments.

- New, advanced resources

Another impressing factor of the programme was the new resources and planned works, such as the extensive Mac suites and impressive printing rooms. I also loved the fact that there was quite a bit of movement between the areas, as the resources are available to be used by the other courses.

- High standards expected of the students

I was also very impressed by how much was expected of the students, as in the final pieces produced, there was a definite pride in how hard the students had worked to produce it, which I feel it a fantastic work effort to be instilled within the students.
