Our first Big Heads talk was with Kyle T Webster, the illustrator and designer from North Carolina. I found it incredibly inspirational to talk to a professional practitioner and see how he views his working patterns, especially how he talked about his work life balance, and how the two need to co-exist in order to inspire one another.
In addition I really liked how he talked about the diversity of his work folder, as he stressed how he believed that a variety in styles makes you more flexible and in demand, which is something I would love to explore more. Furthermore, his collection of photoshop brushes was something which interested me greatly, especially his ethos behind why he started designing them, as he said the starting point was because he was so frustrated that there was a huge lack of brushes which effectively emulated natural media, and he realised that other illustrators must feel the same as him. Overall, I thought his talk was a very inspirational and gave us all a huge insight into the diverse and rich life that a professional illustrator can lead.
