Career Track Tuesday- Interview prep

Cliff Sewell- founder of 15ten15 recruitment

student->research->application->interview prep->interview->follow up->successful/unsuccessful

Research:
-Think about what you want to do- this will lead to job, spend time researching first

Application:
-Research company- what is their ethos-> If you want the job, get in touch- be creative, see who will talk to you
-Good to follow up with email after every conversation
no means no to the first time you want to work with them

Interview Prep:
- You really want the job, so prep- clothes, journey, weather etc.
- Get there an hour early- if you don't want to, you don't want it!
- Research them- show them you have
- Writ questions, let them see

Interview:
- It's ok to take a breath and compose
- It's ok to admit you don't know- might be a test even
- Salary can be mentioned if they have
-Ask questions throughout- can give out questions at 2nd
-They want to talk about theirselves and the company->Ask for an insight- personal reflection
  -> Current projects etc.
  -> What does day day one look like? How does this answer what you want to be doing
  -> Why has job come up
-When leaving- if you offer me the job, I'll take it
-Say hello/goodbye to receptionist

Follow up:
- Ask for email address- send thank you
-If they give you number/email for any questions- ask! stand out

If unsuccessful:
- Try to get foot in door anyway, volunteer, other jobs etc.

Interview isn't the end of it-working life and first impressions are just as important for advancement

You have skills and abilities, but it's all about having personality to get in front of the right people- don't think like a student or you'll get treated like one

This session was really useful, as it helped give me a starting point in how to approach the interview process, and I feel a lot more confident in how to work well in this process
