Illustrated self development

INTENT:
I am really happy with my idea of combining the key things I have learnt over the year with the most important personal parts of my life:

- Layout- Nap taker
- Character- Pun maker
- Repetition- Cup-of-tea-maker
- Precise- Florist
- Shape- Puppy/Baby!
- Roughs- Cheese Society leader
- Craft- Writer
- Simplify- Reader

EVALUATION:
- I used roughs quite intensely here to ensure that my shape driven imagery was how I wanted it, which is a skill I have transferred over from my final brief of OUIL406
- I also thought about layout alongside the creation of images through creating a simple design which would allow the elements to flow between the different placements. I found this really helpful as because I have limited time, it meant I wasn't having to redesign the elements to make them fit into a certain space
- Could I have tried some more media before jumping in with designing with pencil? Feel like I could have managed my time better to ensure I had time to really test imagery out first
- Need to spend more time refining the pun and figure
- Found the feedback session immeasurably helpful, and I also gained an understanding of how people view me and how they want to see me in this poster. It's about me in general, and my friends are a huge part of me, what they say always impacts on my work, and I think this was highlighted in the crit earlier this week

After refining my work for the poster, I scanned them in and used them as templates within illustrator. I used mainly the pen tool, rectangle, alt+drag to copy, and cmd+D to repeat. I also made use of the opacity and layers to create an easier work platform among my sketches and illustrator work. The colours I have used here aren't the final ones, just 'placeholder' tones whilst I work with the imagery.

EVALUATION:
-  Happy with the speed of which I created this work, and feel confident I will be ready for my digital print session at 2pm tomorrow
- Not too sure on the image on a whole at the moment, but I think it might be because it is too 'flat' and digital, I am excited to see how it screen prints- A huge part of me is controlling things which often I can't- this seems fitting for the screen print process!
- Quite like how the boxes are slightly misaligned, think this really speaks to me trying to loosen up and 'not take myself so seriously'
- Like the uneven but balanced spread of yellow
- Could I include a title? Looks a bit empty at parts, like it's missing a direction
- I'm also really happy that I managed to strip and prepare two screens ready for exposing straight after my print session tomorrow

WHAT NOW?
- Ensure I spend time considering and mixing colours- don't just rush into it!!
- Alter figure more, look more at reference material
- Try redrawing pun- more character- this is my chance to show what I learnt in character this year!
- Finish on time for digital print session!

Other influences:

My OUIL406 outcome:

- Similar with the use of negative space- glad I am getting a chance to push this further, with a third colour, and being able to 'decode' something more personal than the last brief
- I am able to capitilise on the successes- Overlap of black and white, use of text- and experiment with the things that didn't work so well- Try using looser shapes and getting a more illustrative feel to them-
- Also having recently produced a similarly processed piece, I have learnt from my mistakes, such as using a big squeegy and not letting the ink dry on the screen
My final outcome for OUIL406
Lucienne Day:

- Lines and negative space work to balance the piece and lead the eye around the print
- Misaligned, like my design, which I think really adds to the natural, handmade side of printing
- A three colour print, which is what I am intending on doing too. I think I need to spend some time considering colour- perhaps my favourite? Ones I wear a lot?
- Love the dotted lines juxtapositioned with the flat, I think these elements will work well in my designs to add a contrast and ensure it isn't just a flat diagram
