Final Illustrated Self

INTENT:
- To combine the skills each project taught me and the defining factors of what makes me 'me'

WHAT DO THE ELEMENTS MEAN:
- Layout: nap-taker
- Simplify: book-reader
- Craft: story-writer
- Rough: cheese-leader
- Shape: puppy-owner & (soon to be) auntie
- Precise: plant-carer/florist
- Repetition: cup-of-tea-maker (and drinker)
- Character: pun-maker & control-taker

PROCESS:
- First time I'd used three colours on such a large scale- was actually quite difficult getting the ink through the whole design on each layer!
- Screen had a few marks/holes in it, so the print wasn't as clear as I would have liked
- Used three screens to make sure I wasn't squashing too many designs onto one screen

WHAT DID OTHERS THINK:
- Could the character have been refined more? Maybe with the addition of yellow in-between the arms?
- Nice colour palette- grabs attention but is cohesive
- Liked the versions with only two prints, but think the three colour one works better as a balanced piece

EVALUATION:
- Wish I could have used a different screen for the background so that it was more clear and crisp
- Would have liked to spend more time refining the elements to make them more polished and developed- I think I just set myself too much work to do near the end, as I only had little over a day to create the whole design, within which I needed to develop 9 different images so that I could digitally/screen print on time
- I also would have liked to include more hand rendered images within, as although illustrator gives a polished feel, it takes away from the character of hand-rendered. I would like to see how this design would look if the positives were completely hand drawn
- Like the colours and layout and how the meaning of the items is only revealed after further inspection

WHAT NEXT:
- Remember to evaluate the time I have left and what is achievable within it. Would it have been more effective if I had fewer element but spent more time on them?
- Don't just rely on illustrator-screenprint methods- try hand rendered, cut paper, anything can be process driven! I have two years to explore my practise- EXPLORE IT!
- Remember to let my hair down! What I think makes 'me' isn't necessarily what others see- do what I love!
