Today we had a visit to Colours May Vary and a talk from Becky and Andy about how they started up/run the shop, as well as tips on how we could sell our work in their shop or other outlets.

NOTES:

-Different areas of working-  library/CMV

-Grew up in same village and reconnected later

- Build something you can't find in Leeds

- More than just a shop, meeting place, experimental

- Collaboration with local illustrators/shops

- Doesn't matter how well made it is, has to 'touch' them both and feel 'right'

- Print etc. all slightly different

- Yuck print- manchester Riso

- Idea and presentation have to be equally good

- Senses- feel, look, smell

-Projects driven by passion work best

- Could come into the shop for feedback

- Costings- Think about margins-> they take 25-60% margin of sale price

- Referendum impacted on costs and imports-> more locally made

- Drop in items then send email? Let them absorb what they're seeing

- Make the space pay for itself

- Collate Paris shop

- CMV- Want things to change- can't sit still

- Typesetting.co- project to send in images of type from Leeds

- Go to the places and see stick- e.g. Stockholm

- Learning curve that never ends- advertising yourself

- Create an investigative display

- Clarity online- How are you presenting your work?
