I had such an amazing time running a workshop at ELCAF with my course mate Annie. The event involved collecting supplies, creating and setting up examples, teaching participants what to do, and offering assistance.
The premise of the workshop was to reuse old books to create their own narrative, which they would then illustrate using scrap and ephemera which would otherwise have been thrown away.
It was the first time I had ran workshops aimed primarily at adults, and I actually really enjoyed the activity, as it was a different kind of challenge to working with children.
What I learnt?
- Importance of adapting tones depending on audience
- The impact of reusing on direction and narration
- How to communicate and assume responsibility within teaching roles
What next?
- Continue to develop theoretical workshops which could be presented at short notice
- Build on contacts from ELCAF
- Continue to take on opportunities to run workshops
